ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION

Artificial Insemination is a quick way to improve your herd genetics. Genetic advances can be made quickly with artificial insemination because of the selection of desired and proven sires. Insemination of does should take place 55-60 hours after removal of the CIDR. The CIDR insert should remain in the doe for 14 days. When breeding deer, the optimum time to breed is during the peak of the rut. The gestation period for deer is approximately 200 days. Most fawns are born within a two week time period of each other. Several factors can affect the timing of the rut, and can determine when exactly the breeding cycle should take place.

SEMEN COLLECTION

On farm semen collection is available through REI. In order to get a buck collected, an appointment needs to be made in adavance so scheduling conflicts are avoided. We do not have the equipment to collect deer at our facility however, on farm semen collection is available.
